FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Liv Hospitality granted a total of $9,500 to Black Hills area charities to help support local youth programs. The grant money was raised on Saturday, April 21, 2018 with Liv Hospitality’s Liv to Give event at WaTiki Indoor Waterpark Resort. During the event, 100% of the proceeds from the waterpark, La Quinta Inn & Suites, Fairfield Inn & Suites, and the resort’s on-site bar, Sliders Bar, were donated to the cause.

Every year, Liv Hospitality invites Guests near and far to join them at the resort to splash, play, stay and give all day long with Liv to Give. This year, the Black Hills-based hospitality company granted the proceeds to four local charities that support various youth programs in the Black Hills. These include the Front Porch Coalition, the Rapid City Police Activities League, the Strider Education Foundation by Strider Bikes and the Days of ’76 Native American Experience Committee.

“At Liv, we’re not only committed to the needs of the Guest, but also to the communities we serve,” says CEO of Liv Hospitality, Caleb Arceneaux. “We believe the future of the Black Hills community lies in the commitment to our youth. Liv to Give gets our community members involved with giving back which allows us to grant funds to programs that are dedicated to benefiting our youth.”

The Front Porch Coalition was awarded $2,500 to facilitate suicide prevention and awareness for adolescents ages 15-24. In 2017, all five Black Hills counties have recorded another record-breaking number of deaths by suicide. The funds from Liv to Give will be utilized to increase the availability of prevention education for the Freshmen Impact program at local colleges.

The Rapid City Police Activities League was granted $3,000 to support the new “Night Court” basketball program. The program is put on by the Rapid City Police Department to bring youth in the 5th through 9th grade together to teach them skills and build confidence. These funds will be utilized to supply essential basketball equipment for the weekly tournaments in downtown Rapid City.

The Strider Education Foundation by Strider Bikes was awarded $2,000 to provide balance bikes and physical education curriculum to a kindergarten class. This one-of-a-kind balancing tool will transform the trajectory of a child’s mobility, confidence, safety, overall mental and physical health at a most critical stage of childhood development.

The Days of ’76 Native American Experience Committee was granted $2,000 to host 24 youth Native American performing artists of the Wambli Ska Drum & Dance Society. The young performers interreacted and taught Lakota dances at the Days of ’76 celebration to increase cultural awareness. The money donated from Liv to Give funded the expenses of the performers and other Native American professionals who traveled to Deadwood for the event.

Liv to Give began in 2007 as “Kevin Morsching Day,” an event held to honor a young man who lost his life after a tragic accident. The benefit raised over $30,000 for the family. Liv Hospitality’s commitment to giving back continues to this day with recurring donations made to the Arete Foundation in memory of Kevin Morsching and the Scott Grimsrud Scholarship: an award started in 2009 to honor Scott Grimsrud, a friend of the organization and inspiration to many in the community. That same year, the Liv to Give fund was established as a component fund of the Black Hills Area Community Foundation. This year, Liv Hospitality donated 10% of the proceeds to the foundation. Liv To Give has contributed more than $300,000 to worthy, non-profit causes in our area.
